I was surprised to find chochin (lantern) skewers on the menu, something rare to find in Japan. The Japanese A5 wagyu was incredible, and the chicken meatball was delicious as well. The yakitori here is seasoned with salt or tare, and the binchotan gives each skewer a subtle smoky flavor. Highly recommend a visit!
My new favorite spot in Markham. Love the vibe and music, perfect for having drink and small talk. Service was attentive and fast. They serve several type of yakitori, some are very special. My fave are thier fries( must try) and the crab burger. both have great porpotions for your last dish. I will definitely come back for more !
Had a blast dining in with a few friends this past Sunday evening. The atmosphere and dining experience was top notch. Servers were friendly. The chefs and cooks were visibly having a great time in the kitchen. The owner was busy making sure every guest was taken cared of. Food selection was incredible and cooked to perfection. Everything we ordered tasted delicious. Highly recommend their parmesan yucca fries - easily top 5 in the city.
I had an amazing dinner at Sumoki! The yakitori is next-level. Excellent everything is grilled over binchotan charcoal, so you get that perfect char without it being too smoky. The A5 Wagyu was super tender and rich, and the chochin skewer was something I’ve never tried before! So unique and delicious. I also really liked the matcha beer, super refreshing and different. Highly recommend if you’re into quality skewers and trying something a little special.
First time at Sumoki and it was incredible. Service was 10/10. The staff were attentive, checked on us frequently and made sure our drinks were topped up. The staff also explained how to best to eat certain specialty skewers to ensure we could get the best bite in. We got an assortment of skewers, including the Sumoki set (comes with 5 skewers), some specialty skewers such as the chouchin, the tsukuneegg dip, both types of udon and so much more. The smokiness from the grill, the quality of the meats and the simplicity of the seasonings made each bite we tried worth come back for. Don’t skip out on the drinks here either! We ordered the matcha beer, the strawberry beer and the icy grapes drink. All were delicious. The restaurant itself is intimate in size, clean and decorated beautifully. Highly recommend Sumoki for drinks and a tapas style meal with friends. You won’t be disappointed in the atmosphere and delicious bites.

The service was also top-notch, with friendly and attentive servers who made sure our glasses were always full and our plates were never empty. Overall, I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great place to chill with friends. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!
A rare find in Markham with a combination of great atmosphere, food, and service. It has a wide selection of Japanese style skewers and fusion dishes. The interior decor feels cozy and has a nice vibe to it, which makes it a great place for food and drinks with friends or a date. My favourite item was the chicken cartilage skewer, which I haven’t seen sold elsewhere. It’s tasty and crunchy!
